Once at least 60% of Brock University Faculty of Education sessional instructors sign a membership card, CUPE will submit an application to the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB).
The OLRB will hold a vote within 1 week to see if workers want a union.
The OLRB holds a secret ballot vote of all workers in the bargaining unit (management does not vote). If the majority of workers who cast ballots vote to unionize, the union is certified.*
The union will serve notice to your employer to begin bargaining your first collective agreement. You will elect a bargaining committee of your coworkers who will be trained and given resources on how to go through the process.
This information is confidential; your employer never gets to see who signed union cards.
How voting will work?
The Labour Board will send a PIN, and link to a ballot, to your email. If you have any issues, call the Helpdesk number during the Hours of Operation. The vote is confidential – the employer will not know how you voted.
To win your union, a majority of those who vote will need to vote YES
What happens after the vote? Together you will decide what’s important – what you want to protect and improve about your wages, benefits and working conditions. You will elect a negotiations committee of co-workers to represent you with Brock.
METHOD OF VOTE: The vote will be conducted ONLINE. You will receive your PIN from the Labour Board in your email.
We will share time, date and hours of Labour Board once application is filed.
